This summer we decided to teach art classes.  The project today was to recreate “Starry Night” by Van Gogh.  The kids learned a bit about Van Gogh.  Some of them added their own personality to their paintings.  The medium used for this project was white paint and chalk on black construction paper.

Many People are talking about the Art Affair in Laguna Beach, but don’t miss the Sawdust art and craft festival. When you are there you will be surrounded by live music and beautiful art, a perfect place for families who enjoy creative activities. There are free throwing classes for pottery, as well as, mesmerizing glass blowing demonstrations. You will be amazed by the diversity in the art from sculpture to paint to photography there is an endless variety of art to purchase. Over 200 local Laguna Beach artists are as diverse as the art they create. Not only to do they produce great art, they construct their own booths which reflect their design styles.

Art in Las Vegas

If you don’t have time to go to Laguna to the Art Affair or Sawdust check out some of the local attractions right here in Las Vegas. The Barrick Museum located at the University of Nevada Las Vegas campus offers many intriguing exhibits. You could make an appointment to see the Neon Museum often referred to as the boneyard. If you are feeling adventurous check out the Centerpiece Gallery located near City Centers Mandarin Oriental. While there you could take a short walk to the Bellagio gallery of fine art or if the heat is too blazing and air conditioned ride in a car. Other great art locations in Las Vegas are the Cosmopolitan’s P3 studio located in the cosmopolitan hotel. Often over looked is the Contemporary Arts Center located in the industrial downtown arts district. The Trifecta Gallery has been one of the few successful galleries in Las Vegas and is definitely worth a visit. If you schedule a tour of the Lou Ruvo Center you can see the rotting art collection by many big named artists.  If you are looking for art from local and regional artists Big Springs Gallery is where you want to look. Often overlooked is the Clark County Government Center who in their rotunda often display beautiful works of art.
